Race #1 – Fleming Park (09/09/2018, 9:30am)

The new CC6 season is upon us and we are pleased to share with you details for this Sunday’s race, which is hosted by Hedge End Running Club, with Itchen Spitfires and Eastleigh Running Clubs. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help!!!

The location of the race is the same as previous seasons on the old golf course, at Fleming Park in Eastleigh.  The nearest post code for the event is SO50 9LH which is for the adjacent Pavilion.

The course itself is approximately 4 miles, consisting of 3 laps of the attached route.  It is a slightly tweaked version from last year’s course. The route is predominantly on grass (we have to keep the paths clear for park users), with elements of gravel track, and under the trees. With the dry conditions we have had, mud lovers might be disappointed. There will be undulations underfoot and tree roots to jump over.  The course route is attached for your information.

The race will start at 9.30am PROMPT, so please arrive in good time for this.

You can use on street parking in the main roads such as Passfield Avenue and Chesnut Avenue, or at the local leisure centre. We strongly advise that you car share, so as to keep the additional traffic in the area to a minimum.  We also kindly request that runners DO NOT park in the adjacent roads to the Pavilion so as to keep the neighbours onside.

The park will be open to other park users, therefore please be considerate to them and watch out for dog walkers especially.

There are no changing facilities at the location. There are limited toilet facilities EXTERNAL to the Pavilion which runners can use.  Runners are not however permitted to use the INTERNAL toilets.

Refreshments will be available after the event. Feel free to bring your own bottle/ drink to minimise the use of plastic cups. We would like to keep these races as environmentally friendly as possible.

There is also a café at the Pavilion, should you need a coffee and / or bacon sandwich.

Results – Race 8

The 2017/18 CC6 season has ended on a high today, with a brilliant race hosted by New Forest Runners, Lymington Tri and Lymington Athletes. A huge thank you to all the marshals for their support – I’ll let the comments below speak for themselves this time:

“Thank you to the club organisers for yet another successful race! We enjoyed the different course and being sheltered from the wind most of the way around.”

“A lovely run this morning through the woods at Wilverley. Not as muddy as I thought it might be. Thanks to the marshalls as well. Great to have a hot tea or coffee at the end.”

Race 8 – Wilverley

The last race of the season is almost upon us and it is taking us back to Wilverley Inclosure in the New Forest on Sunday, 11th March 2018.

The course on Sunday will be different to recent years and will use forest paths similar to the familiar RR10 course rather than going around the plain (see map and further race info). The course is approximately 5 miles long and includes a few fallen trees that are easy to navigate around or over.

Race 7 – Denny Wood (18/02/2018)

Totton hosted a fantastic race on a wonderfully muddy and perfectly marked course. A special thanks goes to all the marshals who safely guided runners around the course over roots and through the gullies and to the catering team for an impeccable selection of cakes!

With one race to come and scoring another fantastic second place in the men’s race, Tom Cully (SAC) has now secured the overall league title for this season. Congratulations Tom!

Race 7 – Denny Wood

Please note that the A35 Redbridge Flyover Westbound is closed at 8pm on Saturday 17 February to 5am on Monday 19 February (A35 road works).

Totton RC invite you to our CC6 at Denny Wood on Sunday 18th February (see Directions).

It will be the same course we have used for the last few years – with its mix of forest tracks, mud, hills, puddles, a ford and more mud. The course is wet – as you would expect from the recent rain. Some Totton elves have been out clearing away the worst of the fallen branches, but as always on cross country participants need to keep their own lookout for trip hazards. The route is a little under 5miles and is not suitable for spikes. Enjoy.

Results: Race 6 – Kings Garn Gutter

Kudos to everyone who came to ‘run’ in the mud yesterday. The cold and wet conditions turned this course into an exceptionally challenging battle against the bog that was great fun for runners and, judging from the pictures I saw, spectators alike. Pictures of the event were taken by Romsey Road Runners and can be found here: Photos – Kings Garn Gutter CC6 21/01/2018.

A big thank you goes to Romsey RR, Soton Tri and Halterworth for hosting a fantastic race as well as to the friendly marshals who sent us round the course and to the catering team who welcomed everyone at the finish line with cake and hot drinks!

We have a winner!

With two more races to go, Beccy Lord (Stubbington) has gathered an unassailable lead in the women’s league table by winning an impressive 4 races so far this season. Congratulations Beccy!!

In the men’s league table, two runners are currently still able to challenge the lead so we can all look forward to a competitive race at Denny Wood on 18th February!

An update for the CC6 race at Kings Garn Gutter Inclosure for Sunday 21st January 2018.

Romsey RR have run a recce of the course last weekend and not to disappoint the course is as usual suitably wet slippery and very muddy, with just a short section on gravel and a nice slippery hill to finish.

Parking near the race venue is in the two areas known as Stoney Cross Plain and Stoney Cross, opposite Longbeech campsite, and walking access to the race area is via Longbeech campsite.

Please use the car parks and do not park in or along the Longbeech road as this is for emergency vehicles access.  As ever, please encourage car sharing as much as possible as parking is very limited.

The race start area is a 5/10 mins walk from the parking areas and race start will be at 0930 prompt.

Results: Race 5 – Badger Farm

A big thank you to Winchester, SAC and Solent Running Sisters and their fantastic marshals for putting on a great race and for braving the cold weather this morning!

Although I wasn’t able to attend today’s race, I heard there were even some bovine pacers chasing runners round the course!

Results of race 5 are now online. I was notified by Winchester that there was a problem with the raffle block and tickets 31-35 and 182-185 (men) and 94, 111-115, 123 (women) were not issued to runners. These tickets were removed from the results table and runners moved up accordingly. Ticket 51 (women) remains unclaimed.

CC6 2017/18 – Results Race 5

 

Race 5 – Badger Farm

Despite wind and rain the CC6 race at Badger Farm is on this Sunday 7 January.  A tree fall has meant we have reverted to the old course, which makes the course around 4.7 miles long.  Whiteshute ridge has been recently enclosed, and home to some cattle, but this should not effect the course.

Directions: The race HQ and meeting area is on Whiteshute ridge at the orientation table (OS Grid Ref:SU465275), park at the Badger Farm Sainsburys (off Badger Farm Road), use the far end of the car park by the Community Centre and Friarsgate Surgery.  We have notified the supermarket so you can park until 11am.  Between the Community Centre and the rear of the supermarket are steps down, follow them which turns into a muddy trail up onto the ridge.  You will notice the ridge has been enclosed as there are cattle on the grassland.  This won’t effect the course but it will restrict the access/exit routes onto the Ridge, so when you finish your race please be mindful of other runners still competing, when using the gates.  The facilities at the Community Centre and Sainsburys/Starbucks are for patrons only.

The course is around 4.7 miles long.  Its fairly muddy at the moment as parts of the Ridge have been churned up by the cattle.  There is a mixture of grass, mud, chalk, gravel and limited tarmac.  The course starts with a loop on the ridge, a single long circuit behind Olivers Battery and finishing with another modified loop on the ridge, culminating with a  climb to the finish.

Cows:  We will be starting in an enclosed area with cattle.  The White British Cattle are friendly enough but be mindful of them.  Our marshals will be at all the gates onto and off the enclosed fields (no kissing gates), their job will be to make sure you are safe AND ensure the cows don’t try to leave their field.
