It was a surprisingly warm autumnal day for Race 2 of the season. The course was in unseasonally good condition with only a couple of mud patches meaning road shoes were the choice of the day.
230 runners turned out to represent their clubs, which was sadly 43 down on last year though this is largely due to a number of clashes with other local races including the inaugural Beaulieu 5k & 10k, and Bournemouth half and 10k.
Leading the men home was Richard Crawford of Lordshill Road Runners, Closely followed by Ben smith of Winchester Fit Club and Tim Rolfe of Stubbington Green Runners. Tina Christmann lead the women home for Southampton Triathlon Club, Followed by Caitlin Hooton of Lordshill Road Runners in P2 and WADAC’s Jane Gandee in P3.
The top scoring teams were Winchester Fit Club’s men, making it two P1’s in two races and WADAC’s ladies also making it two in a row.
Our huge thanks go out to all of the 73 volunteers from Totton RC and Hardley Runners who helped to organise and marshall the event and in particular race-director Rob Barlow. Also thank you to everyone who baked or bought cakes for the finish – they went down a treat on all accounts!
Looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks’ time at Race 3!
Totton Running Club and Hardley Runners are hosting the third CC6 race of the season at Ocknell Campsite. Parking and race HQ will be at the campsite – Ocknell Campsite, Fritham, Lyndhurst SO43 7HH. We will be providing cakes at the finish, but please bring your own water/cups.
The course is about 5 miles long on a mixture of made up tracks and grass areas so please be careful at all times. Parts of the course will be muddy so trail shoes are recommended. Most of the course is an out and back sections so please keep left at all times and follow instructions from the marshals. At the turn point please keep cones to your right hand side – this area is particularly muddy and we have had to make a slight change here from last year to avoid trip hazards.
Please note that the course start is about a 10/15 minutes walk from the car park/race HQ so please arrive in good time. The finish is located close to race HQ.
There will be an area near Race HQ that is designated for kit tents but these must be placed on the hard standing with no use of pegs. We are not permitted to pitch tents on the grass areas.
We will be using parkrun barcodes to automate results processing, see details on the CC6 website. Please bring your parkrun barcode on the day and have it with you when running as scanning will be done at the race finish which is a short distance from race HQ and parking areas.
Spectators are welcome including spectators’ dogs – but please ensure that any dog mess is collected.
Please note that we will need to lock up the race car park at about 11:30 following the race. If you wish to remain in the forest you will need to move your car at the end of the race – Stoney Cross car park is close by. Two years ago some runners left their car and went for a longer run after the race meaning that our RD had to remain on site for a couple of hours waiting for their return.

• Toilets will be open and the cafe will open at 9.00am for all visitors.

WADAC, Winchester Fit Club, Winchester Running Club, Running Sisters and Southampton AC invite you to Race 5 of the CC6 race series at Badger Farm Sunday 9 February 2025, 9:30am start.
Directions: The race HQ and meeting area is on Whiteshute ridge at the orientation table (OS Grid Ref: SU465275 and what3words riverside.shorts.replying). Please use public transport if you can, or car share where possible. Parking is available at:
Pitt Road park and ride which is free on Sundays (Romsey Road Winchester, S022 5PR) and is a 15-20 minute walk from Badger Farm Sainsburys.
Sainsburys car park, at the community centre end of the car park. Do be aware there is a two hour time limit to park there and is for customers only. Race participants may therefore park at their own risk.
The access to Whiteshute Ridge is between the Community Centre and the rear of the supermarket. There are steps down, follow them which turns into a muddy trail up onto the ridge (a 5-minute walk). There is an alternative path without steps to the ridge just off the roundabout on Badger Farm Road.
The toilet facilities at the Community Centre and Sainsburys/Starbucks are for customers only. There are no toilets on the course.
Course: The course is 4.8miles long. There is a mixture of grass, mud, chalk and limited tarmac. We strongly recommend trail shoes. The course starts with a loop on the ridge, a single long circuit towards Compton and behind Olivers Battery and finishing with another modified loop on the ridge, culminating with a climb back to the finish.
Expect the usual hazards of tree roots and uneven trails, and cambers on Whiteshute Ridge, as well as low hanging branches. Marshals will be on the course to point out particular hazards, please follow any instructions they give.
Course changes may be made in the event of adverse weather in the days before the race.
Cows: We will be starting in an enclosed area which is very likely to have cattle on the day. The White British Cattle are friendly enough but be mindful of them. Our marshals will be at all the gates onto and off the enclosed fields, their job will be to make sure you are safe AND ensure the cows don’t try to leave their field.
It is a short walk from the race village to the start so runners will need to start walking down at 9.25am and we may need to modify the start on the day due to unexpected cattle movement.
Be aware that there may well be other members of the public using the area, dog walkers and horse riders etc. please show them courtesy.
If you are not feeling well or have been in contact with anyone who has had Covid-19, or any other infectious illness, then please do not attend the event.
While we will be supplying water at the end of the race we encourage you to bring your own drink and reusable cup to the race.
And finally, we ask that you do not litter and take your rubbish home with you.
Thank you Winchester & District AC, Winchester Fit Club, Winchester Running Club, Running Sisters & Southampton AC
