Race 3 Instructions (10/11/2024)

CC6 Race 3 – Ocknell Campsite

Sunday 10th November 2024 –  start at 0930

Totton Running Club and Hardley Runners are hosting the third CC6 race of the season at Ocknell Campsite.

Parking and race HQ will be at the campsite – Ocknell Campsite, Fritham, Lyndhurst SO43 7HH. What3words ///horseshoe.area.tender

Parking will be strictly at the campsite, please car share if possible. The car park will be open for runners from 0815.

We will be providing cakes at the finish, but please bring your own water/cups.

The course is about 5 miles long on a mixture of made up tracks and grass areas so please be careful at all times. Parts of the course will be muddy, particularly after the recent rain so trail shoes are recommended. Most of the course is an out and back sections so please keep left at all times and follow instructions of the marshals. At the turn point please keep cones to your right hand side – this area is particularly muddy and we have had to make a slight change here from last year to avoid trip hazards

The route is shown on separate file (will be sent to clubs via email) and will be well marshalled on the day.

Please note that the course start is about a 10/15 minutes walk from the car park/race HQ so please arrive in good time. The finish is located close to race HQ. There will be a minutes silence before the start of the race as it is Remberance Sunday.

There will be an area near Race HQ that is designated for kit tents but these must be placed on the hard standing with no use of pegs. We are not permitted to pitch tents on the grass areas.

We will be using parkrun barcodes to automate results processing, see details on the CC6 website. Please bring your parkrun barcode on the day and have it with you when running as scanning will be done at the race finish which is a short distance from race HQ.

Spectators are welcome including spectators’ dogs – but please ensure that any dog mess is collected.

Please note that we will need to lock up the race car park at about 1130 following the race. If you wish to remain in the forest you will need to move your car at the end of the race. Last year some runners left their cars and went for a longer run after the race meaning that our RD had to remain on site for a couple of hours waiting for them.

Kind regards

Race 7 Instructions

Itchen Valley Country Park – Sunday 10 March 2024 – 9.30am
Eastleigh, Hedge End and Itchen Spitfires look forward to welcoming you all to the final CC6 of the season, to be held at Itchen Valley Country Park, SO30 3HQ on Sunday 10th March 2024. Start time 9:30am.

The route is one large lap and one medium lap and comes in at around 4.7 miles. The trails are mainly grass, gravel path and woodland path and trail shoes are highly recommended. There are a number of rabbit holes and tree roots around the course, as well as the odd puddle and patch of mud so please be careful. The park is open to the public and we do not have exclusive use.

Therefore, please be aware of the potential for non-runners on the paths we are using. The route will be well marshalled, with all turns being manned and tape will be used to mark the way in-between marshal points. Please note that as well as the tail runners, there will be several marshals running amongst the back of the field ensuring no runners feel isolated. We have been asked to remind runners that headphones should not be worn during the race.

There is plenty of parking at the country park but please be aware that you need to pay for parking. Payment machines are available in all car parks and accept cash, credit card or can be paid for using the Ringo App. The Ringo number for this is 4910, we suggest downloading the app in advance. All car parks are to be used, we will cone off any spaces that are reserved.

Please follow marshal instructions and be patient as cars may stack up. This doesn’t mean the car parks are full, just that some of them are quite small and it takes a bit longer to manoeuvre into the spaces. There is strictly NO parking on the verges and NO parking on the road outside the country park.

IVCP are very supportive of CC6 and RR10 but upsetting the local residents could jeopardise this support and future events. Please car share where possible to reduce the number of vehicles. There is also bicycle lockup facilities near Go Ape.

The start and finish are in the main field next to Go Ape. This is the same field used for Itchen Valley Parkrun. You will pass the cafe on your left, then carry straight on to the main field. Water and cakes will be available at the finish, but please bring your own cups and please take away your litter. There are ongoing works at the park and the toilets are currently situated in the portaloos across from the café. The café will be open from 10:00 for post-race refreshments. Club tents can be located in the Start / Finish field. Have a great run!

Race 6 Instructions

WADAC, Running Sisters and Southampton AC invite you to Race 6 of the CC6 race series at Badger Farm Sunday 11 February 2024, 9:30am start.

Directions: The race HQ and meeting area is on Whiteshute ridge at the orientation table (OS Grid Ref: SU465275, What3Words: //riverside.shorts.replying).

Please use public transport if you can, or car share where possible and park at Pitt Road park and ride which is free on Sundays (Romsey Road Winchester, S022 5PR) and is a 15-20 minute walk from Badger Farm Sainsburys.

On this occasion the race organisers have not been given permission to park at Sainsburys. Do be aware there is a 2 hour time limit to park there and is for customers only.

The access to Whiteshute Ridge is between the Community Centre and the rear of the supermarket. There are steps down, follow them which turns into a muddy trail up onto the ridge (a 5-minute walk).

The facilities at the Community Centre and Sainsburys/Starbucks are for customers only.

Course: The course is approximately 5 miles long. There is a mixture of grass, mud, chalk and limited tarmac. We strongly recommend trail shoes. The course starts with a loop on the ridge, a single long circuit behind Olivers Battery and finishing with another modified loop on the ridge, culminating with a climb back to the finish. Expect the
usual hazards of tree roots, uneven trails and low hanging branches.

Course changes may be made in the event of adverse weather in the days before the race.

Cows: We will be starting in an enclosed area which is very likely to have cattle on the day. The White British Cattle are friendly enough but be mindful of them. Our marshals will be at all the gates onto and off the enclosed fields, their job will be to make sure you are safe AND ensure the cows don’t try to leave their field.

It is a short walk from the race village to the start so runners will need to start walking down at 9.25am and we may need to modify the start on the day due to unexpected cattle movement.

Be aware that there may well be other members of the public using the area, dog walkers and horse riders etc. please show them courtesy.

If you are not feeling well or have been in contact with anyone who has had Covid-19 then please do not attend the event.

While we will be supplying water at the end of the race we encourage you to bring your own drink and reusable cup to the race.

And finally, we ask that you do not litter and take your rubbish home with you.

Thank you

Winchester & District, Winchester Running Club, Running Sisters & Southampton AC
