Race 2 Report: Ocknell Campsite

It was a surprisingly warm autumnal day for Race 2 of the season. The course was in unseasonally good condition with only a couple of mud patches meaning road shoes were the choice of the day.

230 runners turned out to represent their clubs, which was sadly 43 down on last year though this is largely due to a number of clashes with other local races including the inaugural Beaulieu 5k & 10k, and Bournemouth half and 10k.

Leading the men home was Richard Crawford of Lordshill Road Runners, Closely followed by Ben smith of Winchester Fit Club and Tim Rolfe of Stubbington Green Runners. Tina Christmann lead the women home for Southampton Triathlon Club, Followed by Caitlin Hooton of Lordshill Road Runners in P2 and WADAC’s Jane Gandee in P3.

The top scoring teams were Winchester Fit Club’s men, making it two P1’s in two races and WADAC’s ladies also making it two in a row.

Our huge thanks go out to all of the 73 volunteers from Totton RC and Hardley Runners who helped to organise and marshall the event and in particular race-director Rob Barlow. Also thank you to everyone who baked or bought cakes for the finish – they went down a treat on all accounts!

Looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks’ time at Race 3!
