Well done to all the brave runners who made it out to Janesmoor Pond for a Christmas themed CC6 race despite the cold, wet and windy conditions! Rain showers in the early morning turned the already soft course into a real mud bath, which I hope was enjoyable nonetheless. A huge thank you also to the hardy marshals from Wessex and Lordshill who put on a great race in this pretty part of the Forest!
Race 4 – Janesmoor Pond
Only a few days to go until it’s time to grab your muddy trainers and head to Janesmoor Pond for Race 4 of the series!
The race will take place on Sunday 10th December 2017 and is jointly hosted by Wessex Road Runners and Lordshill Road Runners who will send you on a ~8km loop made of some gravel tracks, open heathland and woodland paths. The ground is very soft in places, spikes are not recommended.
Please note that there are no changing facilities or toilets. Parking is available at Janesmoor Pond car park near Stoney Cross/Fritham. Please car share where possible!

Results: Race 3 – Dibden
Many thanks to Hardley Runners for hosting another brilliantly muddy cross country race! The weather played along nicely, with rain filling up the puddles on Saturday and bright sunshine warming up runners on this chilly Sunday morning. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with lots of smiles and praise for the excellent cake at the finish line!
Results are final now that all positions have been claimed (Race 3 – 2017/18 – Dibden – Final Results).

Race 3 – Dibden Inclosure
It’s CC6 time again this Sunday, 5th November, 2017! The upcoming race at Dibden Inclosure (Beaulieu Road) is hosted by Hardley Runners who provided the detailed race info below. Hopefully we will see many of you out in the forest for a 9:30 am start.
Course (see course map)
There is a slightly different route this year. It is a single lap of approximately 4.7 miles with a mixture of grass, gravel and muddy tracks (and some hills) around Dibden Inclosure, map attached.
Parking (see parking map)
As parking is limited here we request that you car share wherever possible.
Parking on the tracks of the Inclosure (SO42 7YR) is particularity limited and therefore this will be reserved for those who car share to the event. NOTE: If parking here please relocate your car to the car park if you plan to stay on after the race.
Parking before the race is not permitted in the Dibden Inclosure car park as this is used by other members of the public.
Further parking is available a few minutes walk from start on Nash Road, West Road and North Road in Dibden Purlieu and in a public car park on Oak Road (SO45 4PH). See the attached map showing parking locations. There have been some issues around parking for events held here before and so I ask that you stick to these areas and park considerately (e.g. do not block driveways). There is a traffic light crossing to take you across the main road and into the starting area.
Facilities
There are no toilets or showering facilities available.
Notes
As with all the forest courses, please be aware that there will be other members of the public using the area, dog walkers and horse riders etc. so please show courtesy.
Please listen to the marshals out on the course as they will be alerting you to obstacles such as uneven ground, roots, etc.
It has been pointed out to me that the Redbridge Flyover leading out of Southampton will be closed from 8 pm on Saturday 4 November to 5 am on Monday 6 November (see map of affected area).
Due to this it may be best to advise runners to use the M27 and leave at junction 2, then follow the A326 south to Dibden Inclosure. More details of the closure can be found here:

Results: Race 2 – Whiteley
Results are in!
Congratulations to Winchester for coming first in both the women’s individual and team categories today and congratulations to SAC for achieving the same feat for the men!
Thanks to Stubbington and Netley for hosting a great race this morning! It’s been exceptionally muddy on this fantastic cross country course. From what I gathered everyone enjoyed the race and, although some lost their footing, all runners made it across the finish line.
Next one up is Dibden Inclosure on 5th November!
Race 2 – Whiteley
While mud and grass from Fleming Park has hardly had a chance to dry and fall off your muddy trainers, it’s now time for Race 2 on Sunday 1st October. The race starts, as usual, at 9.30am and is hosted by SGR and Netley Abbey Runners – see below for race details.
Before going into the race details, a note on muddy trainers and how get clean ones. Alton Sports, who kindly offered to sponsor trophies for the 2017/18 season (more on that at another time), have given out vouchers at the last event. These can be redeemed at their store in Eastleigh. In case you didn’t get a voucher, just whisper the code word CC6 to one of their staff in store to take advantage of this great offer.
Finally, here is Sadie’s description of the upcoming race:
The race takes place within Whiteley Pastures and Botley Wood and is an undulating course approx. 4.3 miles long. The anti- clockwise figure of 8 route (small loop then larger loop) starts with a climb uphill and is a mix of gravel track and technical single track rutted paths. We can almost certainly guarantee an element of mud at some point with tree roots and logs to negotiate along the way. A map is attached.
The woods are still open to the public and their dogs so please be mindful of others wanting to enjoy the woodlands.
There is plenty of free parking (and coffee shops) at Whiteley Shopping Centre and the Post code for your sat nav is PO15 7PD. Marshalls on the day, positioned near the Whiteley Way roundabout, will direct you to the start line which is a 5 -10 minute walk from the shopping centre.
Please be advised the only public toilets available are within the shopping centre – the main ones are by ‘Next’.
We have listened to your feedback and you will be pleased to know that the course starts AND finishes on the main track – no last minute narrow tight turns this year!
When you have revelled in the glory of the finish, enjoy a cake with us at the end supplied by the budding bakers of SGR & Netley Abbey.

A huge thank you to Itchen Spitfires, Hedge End and Eastleigh for hosting another edition of their race at Fleming Park yesterday.
Conditions were ideal for a fast paced race to start off the cross country season and plenty of positive feedback came in along with the results.

Race 1 – Fleming Park, Eastleigh
With the new CC6 season almost upon us, we are pleased to share with you details for this Sunday’s race, which is hosted by Itchen Spitfires Running Club, with Eastleigh and Hedge End.
The location of the race is as the same as previous seasons on the old golf course, at Fleming Park in Eastleigh. The nearest post code for the event is SO50 9LH which is for the adjacent Pavilion.
The course itself is approximately 4 miles, consisting of 3 laps of the attached route. The route is predominantly on grass (we have to keep the paths clear for park users), with elements of gravel track, so you can expect the usual array of mud and undulations underfoot. The course route, license and risk assessment are attached for your information.
The race will start at 9.30am PROMPT, so please arrive in good time for this.
There is on street parking nearby, or at the local leisure centre, but we request that you car share, so as to keep the additional traffic in the area to a minimum. We also kindly request that runners DO NOT park in the adjacent Pavilion On The Park, so as to keep the neighbours onside. Please respect this request – there will be marshals in the car park just in case….!
The park will be open to other park users, so please be considerate to them and watch out for dog walkers especially.
There are no changing facilities at the location, but there are limited toilet facilities EXTERNAL to the Pavilion which runners can use. Runners are not however permitted to use the INTERNAL toilets.
Water and cake will be available after the event and there is also a café at the Pavilion, should you need a coffee and / or bacon sandwich.
