October 7th sees Stubbington Green Runners and Netley Abbey Runners host the next race at Whiteley Woods, Whiteley. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help.
Whiteley is accessed from junction 9 of the M27, from here head straight over the first roundabout towards ‘Whiteley Shopping’ & ‘Cinema’. At the second roundabout you will see marshals.
We suggest parking at the front end (by the Marks & Spencer) as this is nearest to the start. Alternatively, the roads around the business park can also be used for parking.
The post code for Whiteley Shopping Centre is: PO15 7LJ.
Public toilet facilities are available within the shopping centre if required.
The start is a 10 minute walk, deep into the forest, so please allow time. Marshalls will be on hand to direct you.
The race will start at 9.30am PROMPT, so please arrive in good time for this.
This is a new course of approx. 5 miles, one lap running through Whiteley Pastures and Botley Woods, run on gravel tracks, forest trails and recreational paths.
The trails are dry and rutted in places, so we would recommend running in trail shoes. This course is not suitable for spikes.
The usual hazards will apply, this is an off-road event, held within a forest enclosure and as such, bumps, lumps, dips and hills along with tree roots are all present, these will be marked, but please, as ever take care.
There will be a shortened course for anyone who does not reach marshal point 26 within a reasonable time. This will be at the discretion of the race organiser.
The woods will be open to other users, therefore please be considerate to them and watch out for dog walkers and cyclists especially.
Refreshments will be available after the event. Feel free to bring your own bottle/ drink to minimise the use of plastic cups. We would like to keep these races as environmentally friendly as possible.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday,
Stubbington Green Runners, Netley Abbey Runners
