Race 3 Report: Roundhill

Race 3 of the season and we are still seeing unseasonably mild weather. The course was in good condition with even the grassy track section remaining a track, rather than bog like previous years! A good mix of road and trail shoes being chosen amongst the runners.

310 runners turned out to represent their clubs, which was 80 more than we saw for Race 2 and 2 more than the same race last year, despite it falling of rememberance Sunday. We held a minute’s silenece prior to the race start which I think was a great decision from the oragnising clubs so thank you for that.

Leading the men home was Shaun Egan of Totton RC, with Ben Smith of Winchester Fit club in 2nd and Richard Crawford of Lordshill Road Runners rounding out the top 3. Rebecca Lord lead the women home for Stubbington Green, Followed by Poppy Tanner and Alice Curtin of Hardley Runners.

The top scoring teams were Winchester Fit Club’s men, making it three-from-three and Hardley Runners’ ladies with their first win of the season.

A great turnout for Hamwick Harriers!

Our huge thanks go out to all of the volunteers from Halterworth Harriers, Romsey Road Runners and Southampton Tri Club who helped to organise and marshall the event. Also thank you to everyone who baked or bought cakes for the finish – they went down a treat by all accounts!

Looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks’ time at Race 4: Holmsley!
